Stronger Together: Women Parliamentarians In Joint Action for Peace and Security details the cooperation that the EastWest Institute's Parliamentarians Network for Conflict Prevention and Women's Action for New Directions (WAND) have launched in early 2013.

Continuing its effort to connect the world’s women leaders–and bring women to the forefront to the global conversation–this event report details momentum-building meetings in Ankara, Turkey and Washington, D.C. The report highlights the important role the group played in advocating for the successful implementation of UN Security Council resolution 1325 on Women, Peace and Security, as well as the significant steps necessary to further empower women leaders.

The network’s crucial role is conveyed through the words of Ambassador Melanne Verveer, executive director, Georgetown Institute for Women, Peace & Security. “What you are doing in collaboration is truly remarkable. A network like this is so important, to let your sisters around the world know that they are not alone in their struggle. But that they are the agents of change,” Verveer said.

The release of this report coincides with the 58th session of the United Nations Committee on the Status of Women in New York, which addresses challenges and achievements in the implementation of the Millennium Development Goals for women and girls.
