UK Secretary of State for Northern Ireland Delivers Statement on Haass Talks
Secretary of State for Northern Ireland, Theresa Villiers, made a statement in the House of Commons on Wednesday 8 January 2014 on the all-party Haass Talks in Northern Ireland. Shadow Northern Ireland Secretary, Ivan Lewis, responded to the statement on behalf of the Opposition.
The Haass Talks involved the five main political parties in Northern Ireland meeting to discuss issues surrounding parades, flags and dealing with the past.
US diplomat Dr Richard Haass chaired the talks which were concluded towards the end of 2013, without agreement. The final draft of proposals were published on the Northern Ireland Executive website.
