PN Member Elmar Brok Reminds Ukraine of Conditions for Association Agreement
Member of the European Parliament, chairman of the Committee on Foreign Affairs Elmar Brok believes that early elections of Kyiv mayor should be a prerequisite for the signing and ratification of the Association Agreement with Ukraine.
This is stated in the press service of the European Parliament with reference to a meeting of Brok with Lithuanian President Dalia Grybauskaite on the occasion of the country's presidency of the European Union on July 1 - December 31, 2013.
"It becomes more apparently that signing the Association Agreement with Ukraine, followed by rapid ratification of the agreement (by all 28 EU member states) is possible when the three distinct conditions are met - the immediate release of Yulia Tymoshenko, the progress in judicial reform, taking into account priority, which is concentrated on the reform of the Prosecutor General’s Office and the electoral system, and in the end, the timely conduct of the election of the Kyiv mayor," Brok said.
During the meeting, the parties discussed the preparations for the third summit of the "Eastern Partnership" in Vilnius (Lithuania) in November, in particular, they agreed that the summit should be a major factor in the deepening of the EU's relations with the countries of Eastern Europe.
