PN Member Ambassador Rehman Received Highest Pakistani Civil Award

PN Member Ambassador Rehman receives highest Pakistani civil award

Pakistani President Asif Ali Zardari confered Nishan-e-Imtiaz on Ambassador Sherry Rehman on March 23, the highest honour given to any civilian, for Rehman’s diplomatic achievements. It is a tribute to the ambassador’s excellent and outstanding services for Pakistan, confirms the Foreign Office.

Ambassador Rehman played a huge part in turning around relations with the US this past year, when they were passing through a very difficult phase. “The ambassador was able to steady the relationship through constant engagement, outreach, tireless quiet diplomacy, and an unapologetic narrative of Pakistan’s concerns which addressed some of the disconnect in joint expectations”, says one diplomat. “The relationship has been steadied and is poised to start on an upward trajectory. It is totally different relationship from the one that existed one year ago,” maintain diplomatic sources.

Nishan-e-Imtiaz is the highest honour given to any civilian in Pakistan based on his/her achievements and outstanding services for the country. The president had approved 192 individuals for top civil awards on August 14 last year. The awards are conferred at a ceremony held each year on Pakistan Day (March 23).
