New Norwegian-Russian Border Station Opened

PN member Ine Eriksen Søreide, Norway’s Minister of Defence, recently inaugurated Norway's news border station at the Norwegian-Russian border. About € 17 million have been invested to replace three smaller borders stations with one large modern station.

Over the last decade the Norwegian-Russian cooperation on border control has evolved every year with better communication, joint exercises and mutual openness on information and equipment. Norway recently has suspended the bilateral military cooperation with Russia due to the Russian annexation of Crimea. According to a spokesperson in the Defense Ministry, ordinary border surveillance and cooperation in this field is continuing. However, no representatives from the Russian border authorities attended the Pasvik border station opening.
