New Afghan Leader Calls for Women Representation in Government

Afghanistan's new president-elect, Ashraf Ghani Ahmadzai has said that he wants Afghan women to be represented at the highest levels of government, including the country's Supreme Court. 

President Ahmadzai said in a statement that he is committed to ensuring that women are well represented in the government as well as the education and economic sectors. 

Increasing the representation of women in government would be a major step for women's rights in Afghanistan, a country in which no woman has ever served as a justice on the Supreme Court. 

Ghani Ahmadzai also said Afghans should remember that poverty, lack of education, income equality and insecurity are the country's enemies, and not their fellow citizens. [...]
