Kosovo a State for All, President Says

President Jahjaga of Kosovo

Kosovo's president, Atifete Jahjaga, has used an annual speech in parliament to insist all citizens there are equal regardless of ethnic or national origin or religious beliefs.

Then, addressing deputies in Serbian, Jahjaga called on all Kosovar citizens to work together to build a better future.

She also appealed for maximum support for an EU-mediated dialogue between Belgrade and Pristina in Brussels.

Referring to the involvement of Kosovar citizens in the Syrian war, Jahjaga said Kosovo cannot allow its young people to get involved in wars abroad as part of radical and extremist groups.

An estimated 80 to 100 Kosovar citizens are known to have been engaged in the Syrian conflict alongside rebel groups.
