Georgia and NATO Define Action Plan for 2014

A meeting of the Georgian State Commission on NATO Integration was held at the Chancellery of the Government on December 23.

The meeting was led by Irakli Gharibashvili, Prime Minister of Georgia and Chairperson of the State Commission of Georgia on NATO Integration.

The commission members discussed the NATO Assessment Document of the 2013 Annual National Program. 2014 Annual National Program priorities and preparation works were also defined with a view to reaching Georgia's goals at the upcoming NATO Summit in the United Kingdom, Georgian Prime Minister's press service reported.

"During the discussion on the NATO Assessment Document, 2013 the Annual National Program implemented by the Georgian Government had been assessed by NATO as the best performance in the past five years," State Minister on European and Euro-Atlantic Integration Alex Petriashvili said.

He said at the beginning of 2014 Georgia's Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili will pay official visits to headquarters of the NATO and EU.

"Garibashvili's visits to the NATO, as well as to EU will be held at the highest level. The Alliance has a strong interest and commitment to the visit. The last details of the visits are being finalized," Petriashvili said.

Chairman of the Parliamentary Committee on Defense and Security Irakli Sesiashvili, in turn, expressed confidence that the process of integration into the alliance will be even more active in the future.

"And the next plan of cooperation with NATO for 2014 will be paramount, it can even be said excessively loaded. Alongside with commitments we also have ambitions to provide a fast and efficient development of the country. So, we hope that with the implementation of this plan, our relations with NATO will be further reinforced and strengthened. Naturally, we are waiting for progress," Sesiashvili said.

The State Commission for the Coordination of Georgia's integration into NATO was established in 2009.
