Bio: 

David Martin has been Member of the European Parliament since 1984, where he is currently serving on the Committee on International Trade and on the Subcommittee on Human Rights. He is also member of the European Parliament’s Delegation to the Cariforum — EU Parliamentary Committee as well as of the Delegation for relations with the countries of Southeast Asia and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN).

In late 2013, David Martin received an honorary Ph.D. from the Lahore-based University of the Punjab, in recognition of his services to Pakistan, and in particular for helping to develop links between Pakistan and Europe.

David Martin was educated at Liberton High School and Heriot-Watt University where he was awarded a BA (Hons) in Economics. He holds an MA in European Management and Employment Law from the University of Leicester and has been a guest lecturer on the course 'Europe After The Cold War: The Politics of the European Union' at the University of Glasgow.
