Dr. Fehmida Mirza who was elected on March 19, 2008 as the 19th Speaker of the National Assembly is the first female Speaker of the National Assembly of Pakistan. She also has the distinction of being the first female Speaker in the Muslim World.

Elected to the National Assembly of Pakistan in three consecutive terms (1997, 2002 and 2008), Dr. Fehmida Mirza had been a Member of the National Assembly’s Standing Committees on Population Welfare and Women’s Development, Health, Social Welfare and Special Education, and Commerce and Industries.

Dr. Mirza received her MBBS from Liaqat Medical College Jamshoro Sindh, Pakistan, in 1982 and completed a specialty in gynecology and pediatrics.

Dr. Mirza is very active in philanthropic and humanitarian work. In 2012, she was honored for her inspiring records by the EastWest Institute with the H.H. Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak Award for Values-based Leadership.
