We, the members of the international Parliamentarians Network for Conflict Prevention,

Recognizing that preventing the outbreak of violent conflict is an international imperative and women play a fundamental role in fostering peace and security;

Reaffirming that women’s inclusion in key decision making and peace processes is vital for broad-based and sustainable peace;

Expressing concernthat women are disproportionately excluded from and said processes – for example, there is not a single woman on the current drafting team of Egypt’s new constitution.

Commemorating the 100th anniversary of International Women's Day as an opportune time to review progress on UN SC Resolution 1325;

Calling upon the international community to:

  • Bolster its commitment to strengthening the role of women in areas of instability with suitable levels of resources and capacity.
  • Remove obstacles from women’s full participation in conflict prevention, conflict resolution, and peacebuilding.
  • Support women in conflict areas and take measures to protect them from gender-based violence.
