Women’s Roles in Preventing Conflict
December 04, 2012 to December 06, 2012

Ms. Shinkai Karokhail, Member of the Afghan Parliament Wolesi Jirga and of the Parliamentarians Network, served on a panel discussing women’s roles in preventing conflict and instability during a forum on "Ensuring meaningful inclusion of women on the provincial peace councils in local and national reconciliation efforts".

The forum was held in Afghanistan from 4-6 December 2012 by the Research Institute for Women Peace and Security (RIWPS) in partnership with UNDP/N-Peace. It brought together over 35 women leaders from Southern, Eastern, Northern and Western provinces to review the progress in the Afghanistan Peace and Reintegration Program (APRP) and women's inclusion at Provincial Peace Committees, as well as to participate in a skills assessment process. The forum also informed the concept of National Dialogue for Peace & Reconciliation Led by Afghan women in the next 3-5 years that is being planned by the Institute.

Women from Provincial Peace Committees got an opportunity to share their struggles with women at the Civil Society and Women Groups as well as with the Afghan government.
